GARDENA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#COVID—Spectrum Chemical Mfg. Corp., a global leader in fine chemicals, laboratory equipment and supplies, announced it will commemorate its 50-year anniversary on August 20, 2021, the day the company was founded in 1971.
At a time when communities and nearly every industry’s supply chain infrastructure are adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Spectrum Chemical will mark the occasion of its 50 years in business with additional donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety products to first responders; renewed support for local schools’ science programs; and new investments to strengthen supply chain infrastructure for critical vaccine research and development.
Spectrum Chemical started in 1971 as a small California chemicals company with six employees. Founded by Paul Burg, Spectrum Chemical’s growth and success stems from his original vision of a customer-centric company prioritizing responsive service alongside an extensive catalog of chemicals, laboratory equipment and supplies. Today the company is an internationally recognized brand serving more than 120 industries in 70 countries. (Click here for 50th Anniversary blog.)
Randy Burg, President and CEO of Spectrum Chemical, said, “Over the last five decades, we’ve grown into an established global company with a reliable, scalable supply chain while remaining nimble enough to respond quickly to changes in the marketplace. This includes delivering PPE, infection control products and chemicals used in critical drug discovery and pharmaceutical manufacturing during the pandemic.” He added, “As we celebrate our 50th year, Spectrum Chemical is committed to giving back with community donations and contributions, as well as helping alleviate the supply and demand crisis to meet the needs of customers experiencing so much disruption worldwide.”
“We certainly intend to stay as agile for the next 50 years as we have over the past 50,” said Russell Kneipp, Spectrum Chemical Chief Operating Officer. “Our scalability allows us to adapt quickly to industry challenges and market trends while embracing new technologies and innovations. We believe this will increase our competitive advantage into the future, particularly with pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical customers.”
In acknowledgement of Spectrum Chemical’s 50th anniversary, Gardena, CA Mayor Tasha Cerda issued a Certificate of Recognition to the company. Mayor Cerda stated, “We want to recognize Spectrum Chemical for their 50 years of business success and leadership, and for being a long-standing community partner who continues to support and invest in our city.”
Today, Spectrum has 225 employees, three state-of-the-art analytical laboratories, production and warehouse facilities in Gardena, CA, New Brunswick, N.J. and Shanghai, China. Both U.S. facilities are FDA-registered, and all three sites are ISO 9001:2015 certified.
The company has built a large-scale portfolio of 45,000 pre-pack and bulk chemicals including active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, research organic chemicals, and DEA Schedule 1-4 controlled substances, as well as 1200 USP-NF-FCC-BP-EP-JP chemicals, the largest in the industry. In addition, Spectrum Chemical offers more than 200,000 laboratory supplies and products from 250 manufacturers.
Giving Back to City of Gardena First Responders
As part of Spectrum Chemical’s giving back program, this week the company made a personal protective equipment donation to City of Gardena first responders. Spectrum Chemical donated 1,500 N95 face masks and cases of hand sanitizer to the Gardena police department.
Randy Burg explained, “This is one way for us to show our gratitude to the brave Gardena policemen and women who are on the COVID-19 front lines, as well as to the Gardena community for all their support over the years.”
City of Gardena Police Chief Mike Saffell said, “We want to thank Spectrum Chemical for their generous donation of personal protective equipment. Their community spirit is deeply appreciated. The PPE will help the health and safety of our dedicated police officers as they continue to protect and serve while confronting the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
