Omya develops fast-dissolving, chewable tablets

Omya has developed new fast-dissolving Omyasprint and chewable Omyabone tablets, which it presented at Health ingredients Europe 2018. 

Omyabone is a chewable tablet containing Calcipur as the active ingredient, as well as vitamins K 2 and D 3 from the company’s distribution portfolio. With the combined use of its proprietary calcium minerals and specialty ingredients from its wide-ranging distribution portfolio, Omya is able to provide holistic solutions for various nutraceutical concepts to meet current market demands.

The berry-flavoured Omyasprint prototype is aimed at cognitive and immune health, with vitamin B 12 helping to reduce tiredness and fatigue. Elderly people, pregnant women and those who consume low amounts of animal-source foods are at risk of vitamin B 12 deficiency. As an orally disintegrating tablet, Omyasprint is designed to dissolve in the mouth within seconds without the need for water. The main challenge in ODT development is to
simultaneously combine fast disintegration time, physical stability and acceptable mouthfeel with a cost-effective production process. This requires specific excipients that differ to those used in other oral dosage forms.
