Moderna confirms talking with the US on 100M doses of Cov-19 vaccine

After the US president’s Biden said the US Federal government would buy 100 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna and another 100 million from Pfizer, Moderna today confirmed that it is in discussion with the U.S. government to purchase an additional 100 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for delivery in the third quarter of 2021.

According to Moderna’s press release, the U.S. government has agreed to purchase 200 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, to date. This new purchase would bring the U.S. government’s confirmed order commitment to 300 million doses, Moderna has commented.

On January 4, Moderna said that it increased its base-case global production estimate from 500 to 600 million doses for 2021. Moderna also noted it is continuing to invest and add staff to build up to potentially 1 billion doses for 2021.

Moderna said it would continue to leverage its U.S.-based manufacturing infrastructure to supply the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine to the U.S. government. The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine received Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 18, 2020 and Moderna began supplying to the government shortly thereafter.

Moderna Wednesday provided a supply update for the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, reporting that 30.4 million doses have been supplied to the U.S. Government to date.
