Cambridge Vivarium Space & Services Provider Expands its Offerings to
Include On-Site Solutions
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Boston?src=hash" target="_blank"gt;#Bostonlt;/agt;–Mispro
Biotech Services (“Mispro”) today announced expansion of its
services into the Massachusetts biotechnology supercluster with its
on-site vivarium services solution, Mispro Insource. Mispro
Insource is a comprehensive vivarium services solution that enables
research organizations to focus on science, while Mispro handles all
other aspects of vivarium operations in support of preclinical drug and
product development.
Mispro’s comprehensive insource solution includes:
-
On-site vivarium management & operations, including staffing, animal
husbandry & veterinary services and facility maintenance -
Compliance & regulatory oversight, including AAALAC-accreditation,
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and OLAW/PHS
Assurance - Training & certification for staff and principal investigators
“Running an in vivo research program is complex, time-consuming and
expensive,” said Dr. Keith Astrofsky, DVM, Director of Operations at
Mispro. “With our insource offering, Mispro provides the people,
infrastructure, and know-how to run vivarium research facilities in a
safe, humane, and compliant manner, giving back considerable time and
resources to client companies so they can focus instead on their drug
development programs.”
Mispro offers extensive experience in vivarium operations and services,
having grown a network of off-site vivarium facilities in key North
American biotech hubs since its founding in 2003, including a facility
in Kendall Square that opened in 2014. Mispro supports multiple clients
in its facilities, giving them access to research and animal housing
space while also providing all animal care and compliance services.
“Expansion into insourcing in the Cambridge-Boston market is a natural
progression for Mispro,” adds Astrofsky. “We’ve seen first-hand the
benefits to our clients’ research programs that our services and managed
environments have provided, and we’ve had several clients grow into
their own vivarium facilities and ask us to run those research
facilities. That, along with our success providing insourcing in other
markets, is a good indicator for us that what we’re offering is of real
value.”
Synlogic Therapeutics, pioneers in the development of a novel class of
living Synthetic Biotic™ medicines, is one of those companies. “Having
Mispro handle the activities surrounding husbandry, staffing, preparing
the facility for future accreditation, and setting up the IACUC has
meant that Synlogic staff are able to fully focus on research,” said Kip
West, Ph.D., Synlogic’s Director of Immunomodulation.
