February 17, 2022The Clean Medicine Pioneer Taps Emily Culp as CMO
ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Genexa, makers of the world’s first clean medicines – made with the same effective active ingredients as conventional brands but without any of the artificial fillers – has appointed Emily Culp as the company’s new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Culp will lead all branding, marketing and eCommerce for Genexa, bringing with her more than two decades of experience in marketing and eCommerce and a proven track record in accelerating growth by building consumer-centric brands across channels and geographies, driving business transformation, and introducing innovative new products.
Culp joins Genexa at an exciting time of high growth. In 2021, Genexa expanded its retail footprint into 45,000 stores nationwide, including key retailer partners such as Walmart, Target, Rite Aid, CVS, Whole Foods as well as online at Genexa.com and Amazon. The company also launched its first national broadcast marketing campaign and closed a highly successful and oversubscribed $60 million Series A that brought together some of the world’s most well-regarded investors in consumer products. Hollywood’s top wellness advocates also participated in the Series A, the largest ever for a consumer pharmaceutical company. Celebrity investors passionate about the clean medicine movement include Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Pratt, Katherine Schwarzenegger, Donald Glover, Lily Aldridge, Jennifer Meyer, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan, Don Cheadle, Bridgid Coulter, Lana Parrilla, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tony Kanal, Zoey Deutch, and Nikki Reed.
“We are very excited for the future of clean medicine, and Emily could not be a better leader to help accelerate Genexa’s growth and to embed our brand and our core mission – people over everything – into the hearts and minds of our consumers,” noted Genexa Co-founder & CEO David Johnson. “We are committed to giving everyone access to real choices and Emily’s passion for and experience with mission-driven companies will help us shape our voice and brand with customers.”
“Genexa is doing something I’ve never seen before in my decades of experience in OTC medicines,” adds Genexa Chair Brian Perkins. “Inspired by putting people over everything, Genexa is driving innovation by challenging the way OTC drugs are formulated, bringing healthy, clean medicines to the market in a way never thought possible. Emily’s passion for and experience with mission-driven companies like ours will help us shape our voice and brand with customers.”
Spanning all traditional categories of OTC treatment including cold and flu, analgesics, digestion and allergy for infants, kids and adults, Genexa’s medicines have the same active ingredients as the category leaders but, for the first time ever, are made without any artificial inactive ingredients including the plethora of artificial dyes, talc, sorbitol, high fructose corn syrup, propylene glycol, titanium dioxide, and common allergens like gluten and lactose.
“I am honored and thrilled to be joining Genexa. I deeply believe in the vision that Max and David have set forth – finally providing people with the real choice of being able to use medicines that are both effective and clean, medicine made by people who truly care about you and your family,” said Emily Culp, CMO of Genexa. “The years of development with leading doctors and experts means that there is finally effective medicine available without artificial colors, flavors and common allergens while keeping all the active ingredients you actually need. For me, this means better health options are finally available to everyone and they are being made by a company that puts people first in every way.”
Most recently, Emily was the CEO of Cover FX, a clean beauty brand with a global omni-channel presence. She led the transformation of the company by pivoting the business model to be more consumer-centric, global and DTC-focused and by introducing patent pending new products. Her leadership and vision allowed Cover FX to maintain its position as a pioneer in the clean beauty category while adapting to shifts within the industry.
Before joining Cover FX, Emily was the Global CMO at Keds, where she was responsible for driving the strategic development and creative execution of Keds’ global marketing initiatives including retail development, omni-channel marketing, eCommerce, PR, content development and product collaborations. Emily has also held global omni-channel marketing & retail transformation roles at Rebecca Minkoff, Clinique and Unilever. She began her career in a variety of positions at agencies including Ogilvy & Mather, Arnold and Digitas.
Emily has been recognized in Forbes as one of The World’s Most Influential CMOs, in Business Insider on the 50 Most Innovative CMOs in the World list, and in Adweek’s 50 List. She is a frequent lecturer at Columbia University and has spoken at numerous prestigious industry events including shop.org, NRF, Google Retail Summit and SXSW.
