Environmental Jobs Supported Through BioTalent Canada Wage Subsidy Program
August 26, 2019OTTAWA, Ontario–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#HR–BioTalent Canada announced today the renewed support for organizations within Canada’s environmental sector through the Science Horizons wage subsidy program – a program that helps new graduates in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) acquire work experience in environmental STEM fields.
“BioTalent Canada placed 106 new grads into STEM positions across Canada with 67 employers in our introductory Science Horizons program,” says Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “We are excited to continue on this success and expand the Canadian bio-economy’s reach in an emerging industry.”
Undertaken with the financial support of Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program will provide over $1.1 million to facilitate the hiring of 65 new graduates in the next two years.
“The Science Horizons Youth Internship Program will provide an opportunity for hundreds of young Canadians across the country to gain valuable experience in the environmental, clean tech and innovation sectors. It’s by supporting the next generation of environmental stewards, innovators and entrepreneurs that we can continue to protect the environment and grow the economy.”
– Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change
As reported in BioTalent Canada’s recent report, Green Crossovers, Science Horizons has been instrumental in the growth of many small- and medium-sized enterprises who participated, with 58% of employers expediting, initiating or increasing new positions through the subsidy, and 84% saying they planned to hire their participant.
“It’s an excellent program for helping biotech companies grow in Canada,” said Joshua Zoshi, Chief Operating Officer at Saltworks Technologies, British Columbia. “Science Horizons allowed us to hire good people faster and increase our ability to compete in this global industry, which helps advance Canada as a world leader in biotechnology.”
Science Horizons is just one of the wage subsidies managed through BioTalent Canada; providing new graduates the opportunity to lay a strong foundation for successful careers in biotechnology – as seen through BioTalent Canada’s success stories.
“If Mirexus hadn’t had access to this program, they wouldn’t have been able to hire me in the first place,” said Ricky Ghoshal, Director of Strategic Development at Mirexus Biotechnologies. “BioTalent Canada has helped make my career possible.”
