SAN DIEGO & LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BioLA?src=hash" target="_blank"gt;#BioLAlt;/agt;–Biocom, the association representing the life science industry of
California, today announced that Dina Lozofsky, the organization’s
executive director for its Los Angeles office, was appointed to serve on
the governing board of Bioscience Los Angeles County (https://www.biolac.org/).

BioLA was founded in 2018 to ensure Los Angeles has a collaborative,
well-coalesced ecosystem that encompasses all aspects of the Southern
California life sciences cluster. The organization will focus on
harmonizing the efforts of the many regional stakeholders working to
advance Los Angeles’ life science entrepreneurial capacity and pace of
innovation, including academic institutions, research hospitals,
investors, startups, mature companies, trade associations, and public
and quasi-public agencies.

The BioLA initiative was launched by Los Angeles County in recognition
that this industry is important to economic development in the LA area
and that support of the industry is served by a public-private
partnership. In addition to County of Los Angeles, BioLA founding
sponsors include Amgen, PhRMA, Richard Lundquist, Richard Merkin and
others to be announced soon, who will all have representation on the
governing board.

“The County of Los Angeles was the fundamental guiding force in the
creation of BioLA, and it’s gratifying to see their deep commitment to
our industry,” said Ms. Lozofsky. “With their support and that of the
other founding sponsors, we are adding to the growing momentum that the
LA life sciences industry has enjoyed for the last three years. Biocom
and I are pleased to participate in the efforts of this organization,
which will amplify the work Biocom is doing on behalf of our Los Angeles
area members.”

Biocom opened its office in Los Angeles in 2016 with the goal of
accelerating the growth of a thriving, dynamic life sciences community,
leveraging the many building blocks that were already in place: robust
research institutions and hospitals, mature pharmaceutical and medical
device companies, as well as a highly skilled pool of life science
graduates.

“We established our Los Angeles office to help advance the growth of the
industry here, collaborated with a range of organizations, including
member organizations and other partners, and our efforts have borne
fruit,” said Joe Panetta, CEO of Biocom. “New venture capital funds have
been established specifically to support life sciences in LA, and many
incubators have established a footprint in the county, both of which
will help Los Angeles’ talented workforce and homegrown technologies
stay in the area.”
