About Retinal Diseases
Retinal diseases currently impact more than 10 million Americans. These diseases affect the retina, the light-sensitive tissue located in the back of the eye. Common retinal diseases include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and retinitis pigmentosa. Retinal diseases can cause symptoms that impact vision, such as blindness or low vision. The most common causes of retinal damage include genetic and environmental factors, and these can be related to old age, light damage or trauma.
