Cancer cases and deaths on the rise in the EU
October 3, 2023New cancer cases rose by 2.3 % compared to 2020, to reach 2.74 million in 2022. Similarly, cancer deaths went up by 2.4 % compared to 2020, according to the European Commission’s estimates published in the European Cancer Information System (ECIS).
ECIS has published a piece in which it says that men are more at risk.
According to the piece, new 2022 estimates for EU Member States show that 31% of men and 25% of women are expected to be diagnosed with cancer before reaching the age of 75 years. 14% of men and 9% of women are estimated to die from cancer before reaching 75 years.
Cancer affects men slightly more than women: 53% of new cancer cases and 55% of cancer deaths occur in men.
