AstraZeneca’s MCL drug won FDA’s breakthrough therapy designation

AstraZeneca and its haematology research and development centre of excellence, Acerta Pharma, today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for acalabrutinib for the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) who have received at least one prior therapy.

Transgene testing Opdivo with Pexa-Vec to treat HCC – first patient treated

Transgene has treated the first patient in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial for the combination of Pexa-Vec with Opdivo as a first-line treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The trial will assess the safety and tolerability as well as the anti-tumor activity and efficacy of this immunotherapy combination regimen in up to 36 patients (NCT03071094).  This tumour accounts for approximately 75% of liver cancers.

Merck, AstraZeneca in a $8.5 billion oncology deal

AstraZeneca and Merck on Thursday said that they have made a deal to co-develop and co-commercialise AstraZeneca’s oncology product Lynparza (olaparib) for multiple cancer types. Lynparza is an oral poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor currently approved for BRCA-mutated ovarian cancer in multiple lines of treatment.
