Sienna Biopharmaceuticals hire ex Allergan’s boss as advisor

David E.I. Pyott

Former Allergan boss David Pyott signed as special advisor to Sienna Biopharmaceuticals, a privately held, clinical-stage medical dermatology and aesthetics company.

Dr. Pyott, who is known from his time as chairman and CEO of Allergan for 17 years, has signed on as special advisor to Sienna’s CEO and Board of Directors. His return to dermatology and aesthetics begins right away.

Sienna President and CEO, Frederick C. Beddingfield III, M.D., Ph.D., served as Vice President and Therapeutic Area Head of Dermatology and Aesthetics at Allergan and Chief Medical Officer of Allergan Medical during Dr. Pyott’s time. He said: “David’s successful track-record building an industry-leading, diversified dermatology, ophthalmology and aesthetics company, combined with his focus on the patient and their needs, make him the perfect partner as Sienna continues to grow.”

Pyott said: “Frederick and his experienced team have an impressive pipeline and a clear vision – to improve patients’ lives by developing potentially game-changing and highly effective topical therapies that target the skin, yet have limited systemic exposure”

During his tenure at Allergan, from 1998 to 2015, Pyott was recognized by the Harvard Business Review as one of “The 100 Best Performing CEOs in the World.” Under his leadership, Allergan became a global specialty pharmaceutical and medical device company, with sales of more than $7 billion in 2014 and more than 10,000 employees.

Prior to Allergan, Dr. Pyott served as the head of the Novartis Nutrition Division and as a member of the executive committee of Switzerland-based Novartis AG.
