[NCT #04326036 an FDA Oversight Trial]
SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–On Saturday, October 17, 2020, beginning at 8:30 am PDT, the San Diego Academy of Regenerative Therapies (SDARTs) will host a 90-minute Zoom expert Panel Discussion focused on the rationale and protocol for this FDA Oversight Trial. “The human race faces a viral pandemic which attacks the lungs, and eventually other systems, leaving permanent damage in the essential gas exchange function,” says Dr. Robert W. Alexander, MD, DMD, FICS, and Principal Investigator. “Existing clinical trials in lung disease (COPD) using the body’s own adult stem/stromal cells show promising improvement of function and patient lifestyle.” The largest storehouse of these reparative cells is found in fat, which has the greatest number of microcapillaries in the body. “These cells and their secretions are felt to represent an enormous step forward toward using our own tissue to respond to, and help repair, damage from viral infection and inflammatory injuries,” says Dr. Alexander. “This study will examine and document achieved changes in the treatment of post-COVID-19 lung damage.”
Joining Dr. Alexander will be Ramón Llull, MD, Ph.D., from Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Dr. Llull has been studying, practicing, and publishing on the regenerative properties of stem/stromal cells derived from a patient’s fat for over twenty-five years. “Fat contains cells with the intrinsic capacity of healing: the strength to mend scaffolds, bleeding vessels, and extinguish inflammation within the tissues,” says Dr. Llull. “We are facing scarred lungs in COVID survivors; these therapies might be the answer for achieving compliant, healthy lungs. Dr. Stanwyck uses adipose-derived cellular therapies successfully to reduce pain and improve his patients’ lifestyle without surgery.
Panel Topics will include:
- Patient physical impact from SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
- Overview discussion of patient issues
- Potential use of AD-cSVF (adipose-derived cellular stromal vascular fraction) to help mitigate lung damage in post-COVID-19 patients
- Discussion of new technology for Functional Respiratory Imaging and Lung Function Testing
- Scientific data supporting the potential of using adipose cSVF for mitigating lung damage
- Materials and methods for harvesting, processing, and administering AD-cSVF
“The advent of sterile, coated closed syringe microcannula systems from Tulip Medical Products, a division of Black Tie Medical, Inc., San Diego, CA, USA (the sponsor of the study), has proven to be among the most reliable and trusted systems available for the gentle, safe, and easy access to these adipose cells and attachment media (ECM),” says Dr. Alexander.
Registration (required) for this expert panel discussion is now open. Interested parties should register here.
Drs. Alexander, Llull, and Stanwyck are faculty members of SDARTs, and their contributions are viewable on the SDARTs Online Learning Platform. “We had to change our plans for the 2020 global conference in San Diego due to the pandemic,” says Marcille Pilkington, Founder and CEO of SDARTs. “But we’ve archived more than three years of conference video content. We’re adding new content regularly in the form of specialized compendiums, master classes, scientific and clinical didactic presentations, and expert panel discussions from our international faculty of Expert Contributors. Our specialized focus is on regenerative therapies that are changing the way physicians treat patients. Our subscribers want to learn about the evolving applications for Microfat, Nanofat, and cSVF in regenerative and aesthetic therapies. All of this is now available in our Online Learning Platform on-demand. We’re also excited to announce the next SDARTS 2021 Global Conference in August 2021 – The Science and Beauty of Regeneration. If possible, this will be a hybrid conference with both onsite and virtual attendance options. Our faculty will present updates on regenerative therapies for musculoskeletal applications, pain management, hair restoration, scar treatment, podiatric applications, regenerative aesthetics, and breast reconstruction. We will have at least one session devoted to updates on Dr. Alexander’s clinical trial and other research in regenerative applications for COVID-19 patients. Using a person’s own cells to heal, repair, and rejuvenate is the medicine of the future.”
“The opportunity to explore how these regenerative cells keep local infection at bay represents an enormous opportunity the scientific community cannot afford to lose.” – Ramón Llull, MD, Ph.D.
