Team SoCal is Participating in the Reimagined 2020 Donate Life Transplant Games With Virtual Activities and Special Events in 2021
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#2020TransplantGames–To continue with its mission of inspiring local communities to Donate Life, OneLegacy is partnering with Team SoCal and Transplant Life Foundation to help celebrate the Reimagined 2020 Donate Life Transplant Games. The Games are celebrated in the U.S. every two years, gathering thousands of transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, people on the waiting list, caregivers, transplant professionals, supporters and spectators. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Games were postponed to 2021, including a mix of in-person and virtual activities around the country.
“The Reimagined 2020 Donate Life Transplant Games will look different this year due to the COVID-19 virus, but the transplant community will still be celebrating and honoring donors and working toward the mission of saving lives by reducing the number of individuals waiting for a transplant,” said Bill Ryan from the Transplant Life Foundation. “The Reimagined Games will have a bigger reach than ever. Remaining safely at home, many of the competitors will be participating in communities across the country and increasing awareness locally. Our exciting new Event Hub will make internet programming available for ALL.”
For the last 10 years, OneLegacy has sponsored the biennial Transplant Games of America; and its support continues for the Reimagined 2020 Donate Life Transplant Games. OneLegacy is also a proud sponsor of Team SoCal, the local team that participates in the Transplant Games every two years. For the last few weeks, Team SoCal members have stayed busy participating in a series of virtual events that started on April 24 as part of the 2021 Donate Life Run/Walk and will continue through July 19.
“We are excited to participate from Southern California in the Reimagined Games,” said Susan Van Campen, tissue recipient, living kidney donor and Team SoCal’s president. “We look forward to seeing each other again in person and to meet other teams from around the nation next year when we participate in the 2022 Transplant Games in San Diego.”
The Transplant Games will also gather participants in New Jersey from July 16 through July 19, with a series of special events that remote participants can join virtually, including coffee houses, quilt pinning, a parade of athletes and many other activities.
