New Report Cautions Pharma That a Big Budget Does Not Always Equate to a High Performing Launch

Deployment Timing of Field Force Can Lead to Success, According to a New TGaS Report from Trinity Life Sciences

WALTHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#launchexcellenceTrinity Life Sciences, a leader in global life sciences solutions, is sharing findings from its latest TGaS Landscape report entitled, “Launch Excellence Advisory Study.” The report is based on interviews of 30 biopharmaceutical company Chief Commercial Officers who shared their experience on the type of drug launch preparation necessary to ensure success.

One of the major take-aways was that pharmaceutical companies with “too much budget” were less likely to have high performing launches. Of the companies in the survey that reported having too much money dedicated to launch, only one performed above expectations. The report counsels that companies should carefully invest where it counts.

In terms of hiring Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), the report finds earlier is better. On average, higher performing launches had their MSLs assigned and in place almost twice as early as companies with lower performing launches. However, sales forces were different. On average, companies with higher performing launches had their sales force in place 2.6 months prior to launch, whereas lower-performing launches had their sales force in place at 3.8 month prior to launch.

“Since a sales force is one of the biggest expenses associated with a launch, hiring reps too soon can result in unnecessary costs,” said Curt Saab, SVP of Emerging Life Sciences Network for Trinity’s TGaS division.
