J&J has expanded its medical devices branch as its company Ethicon Endo-Surgery has bought a private medical device company Megadyne Medical Products, Inc. for an unknown price.

Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies Ethicon said on Friday that the purchase of Megadyne will combine the intelligence of Ethicon’s energy devices and Megadyne’s portfolio of electrosurgical tools.

It said it represents a major step forward in Ethicon’s goal to have the most comprehensive suite of intelligent energy solutions that enhance precision and efficiency in the operating room. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Michael del Prado, Chairman of Ethicon, said: “This acquisition will help accelerate and expand innovation across the entire energy portfolio, broadening our surgical and energy solutions to provide clinical and economic value to customers worldwide.”

Eticon further said that Megadyne adds to Ethicon’s energy tools with its products that include monopolar and bipolar electrodes, patient return electrodes, generators and smoke evacuation systems.

“Megadyne shares Ethicon’s commitment to bringing innovative solutions to surgeons and hospital systems worldwide,” said Megadyne Chief Executive Officer Rob Farnsworth. “We are excited about working together to bring more elegant electrosurgical tools to a broader market through Ethicon’s extended global network.”
