Centogene to globalize COVID-19 testing

Centogene said Tuesday it will expand its testing efforts for the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, from previously testing in Germany’s Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region, to now offering its extensively validated SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR testing to the rest of the world.

Centogene Senior Vice President of Clinical Lab Operations and Head of the Hamburg Laboratory Dr. Florian Vogel said that, with the recent addition of the new lab and streamlined COVID-19 testing workflows via high-throughput, high-quality analyses, Centogene has been able to significantly increase its testing capacities ─ now being able to provide time-sensitive diagnostic solutions to patients and physicians around the world.

Prof. Arndt Rolfs, CEO of Centogene, said that testing efforts around the world must be increased to support early diagnosis and minimize the outbreak of COVID-19.

“Leveraging our existing infrastructure and capabilities, we have developed a fully validated sample collection kit to detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Additionally, we have opened an entirely new lab in Hamburg,” he said.

“We are convinced that with these latest achievements in our series of efforts in the fight against COVID-19, we will be able to support a return to new normalcy.
